Prez links full implementation to nat. development

President Ranil Wickremesinghe addressed Parliament, stressing the importance of fully implementing the 13th Amendment to the Constitution through consensus among all Parliamentarians. 

 

 

He emphasized the legal significance of the 13th Amendment, which involves decentralizing power to Provincial Councils (PCs). The President also discussed plans to revise PC laws, increase female representation, and adopt a district proportional system for voting. 

 

 

He highlighted efforts to release occupied land by security forces, accelerate the National Land Commission (NLC) formation, and establish a national land policy. 

 

 

Additionally, President Wickremesinghe announced plans to grant Presidential pardons to prisoners on death row and those with other sentences based on recommendations from the Minister of Justice and Prisons Affairs.
