Cabinet greenlight to obtain USD 200 mn World Bank funding for social security programs
The Cabinet of Ministers in Sri Lanka has agreed with the International Development Association of the World Bank Group to obtain funding for a project to strengthen the country's social security system.
The World Bank will provide a loan of USD 200 million for the project, which includes support for the 'Aswesuma' welfare benefits program, a pilot project to strengthen selected beneficiaries, and overall project management and social security system enhancement.
The project aims to provide better-targeted income support and livelihood opportunities to the poor and vulnerable in Sri Lanka.
