Nilani Rathnayaka and Yupun Abeykoon are going to Olymipc games! Congratulations to these Track and Field heroes!

Yupun Abeykoon and Nilani Rathnayaka will round out Sri Lanka's nine-strong Olympic team for the Tokyo 2020 Games, which will take place from July 23 to August 8.

Abeykoon, is presently ranked 49th on the World Athletics Charts as of 22nd June 2021. (46 on Olympic qualification list). Based on his rankings, the 26-year-old Pannala athlete has already made significant progress in the 100m race to qualify for the Olympics.

At the 60th Indian Interstate Championships, Rathnayake will compete in the 3000-meter steeplechase event today. Based on her World Ranking (45), she is also within the Olympic qualification quota (42nd position).

On July 1st, final confirmation on both athletes is expected to be released.
