Paddy purchasing faces issues from PMB, farmers
Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera intends to address paddy purchasing issues promptly.
Due to insufficient funding from the Paddy Marketing Board (PMB), Treasury funds were used, leading to lower-than-expected paddy prices and farmer reluctance to sell.
Amaraweera assured a resolution through stakeholder discussions. He also plans to establish a uniform planting season and publicize it nationally.
Furthermore, the PMB's claim of adequate funds for paddy purchase contrasts with reported farmer boycotts and warehouse closures.
The Minister also noted high egg prices due to reduced production, expecting lower costs with increased production.
