Wijeweera's son set to launch new party

Wijeweera's son set to launch new party

Former Jantha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Leader, late Rohana Wijeweera’s son Uvindu Wijeweera has set the stage to form a new party on the same lines of the party that his father led before being killed in 1989.

Uvindu has vowed to form a new political party to be registered with the Elections commission and draw back the ex-JVP members as well those disgruntle with the current JVP.

His move comes as the 50th anniversary of the 1971 uprising will be marked. A website launched will update information on the persons involved in the 1971 insurrection and will be remembered in respect of them, he said.

Uvindu who now dresses in similar attire to his father says that though the concept of forming a new party developed a couple of years back its only now that he is giving leadership to the movement with the help of many who are children of those who were involved in 1971 events.

He pointed out that the JVP has now broken into three and he believes all should unite now.
