Wealthy homes are searched to see if there are underage servants

The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) has said it will search for wealthy homes in the Colombo area in search of child slaves following the recent death of a 16-year-old girl at a former minister's house.

The Chairman of the National Child Protection Authority, Prof. Muditha Vidanapathirana stated that minors have been detained as housemaids in wealthy houses in and around Colombo and that if there are underage children, they will be arrested within the next few days.

They have reported that girls and boys from poor families are doing domestic work in homes in Colombo and other urban areas.
