“Mother of the miniskirt” dies in England

EnglandMary Quant, the British lady and a British fashion designer is known as the “mother of the miniskirt”. She was born in a middle-class family in the suburbs of London in 1930 and died peacefully at her home in Surrey, on the 12th, yesterday, at the age of 93. The news was announced by Marie’s family on the 13th.

Although some people believe that Mary Quant is the one who invented the miniskirt, it is not the true story. However, the miniskirt is undoubtedly carried forward in her hands.

She has shown her interest in needlework since her childhood and she continued it despite her parents’ contrary opinions. Marie had studied at Goldsmiths College, University of London. She has been always a chilling character and her personality has definitely influenced her fashion designs. She played with British fashion, disassembled the ruffles, stand-up collars or suit fabrics popular in the gentleman and Victorian times, and further, recreated and reorganized them into a new fashion language.

Speaking at an interview on Thames TV, in 1985, she revealed she was not at all interested in the clothes at her time and especially the clothes she received from a cousin. She emphasized, “They weren't me."

she has already mentioned a young classy girl in her dancing class. "She was very complete. And her look! It's always been in my head. Black tights. White ankle socks... and black patent leather shoes with a button on top. The skirt was minutely short." Probable reasons are adequate to elaborate that this impression could lead her to her fashion journey.

"She was one of the first female fashion designers to build an entire brand around her name," said John Campbell McMillian, a history professor who studies the 1960s.
