Regulating int’l schools

The Minister of Education, Dr Susil Premajayantha, has announced the government's plans to establish a dedicated unit within the National Education Commission (NEC) to regulate international schools in Sri Lanka.

Currently, there are approximately 300 international schools in the country, and concerns have been raised about their standards as they are registered under the Companies Act.

To address this, the NEC has proposed the establishment of a separate unit to regulate these schools and ensure quality standards are maintained.

In addition, the schedule for the 2023 General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A/L) Examination has been set to take place from November to December.

The 2023 GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) Examination is planned for March or April 2024, and the timetable for this exam is currently being prepared.
