Grade 9 Life skills : World of Work - Part 10

A job application form which is also termed as an employment form is a means of gathering accurate information from the applicants and many organizations require the job seekers to submit the completed job application form despite the job role. The application forms differ from the job and the company. There are many types of job applications like online applications, paper application, applications available at stores (in-person job application) and email job applications. Sometimes, you may be required to forward a job application although you have submitted your curriculum vitea or the resume. Job applications help the employers to maintain records appropriately as a measure of complying with the required labor laws. This is a common attribute of the recruitment process of most of the well established companies.

When you are required to submit an application, it is essential that you retain a copy of the application, the relevant advertisement and their acknowledgement of your registration. It will help you to make further enquiries in future and use it as a reference. Furthermore, you can attach your CV or the resume and a covering letter to the application prior to submission. When you fill a job application it is important to read the instructions carefully and follow them accurately. Remember, although these may look trivial, they matter all the time! Ensure that you complete all the areas as requested in the application and provide only the correct information. You should use the squares or blanks given to fill in the application and it is advised to write “inapplicable” in the areas that may be left empty. It is always better to print the application or use clear handwriting. It should never look untidy and it may make you lose some points if it looks dirty and messy.

You must not wait till the deadline of the application submission and it is important to fill in a photocopy of the original document first. Fill-in a rough copy prior to completing the application will help you to avoid the drawbacks of writing and include only the required information. You can also show it to someone and get it corrected accordingly.  This will make it look organized and may help you to impress the employer. Always be mindful of the fact that the first impression counts a lot! You can use the spaces given appropriately and this will result in a neatly filled job application. It will help you to add a precise and a clear ending to the application as every step is written according to a plan and a good understanding. The rough copy you used can be kept as an additional copy of the information for your reference.
