Grade 6 Life Skills : Qualities that should be inculcated as a good citizen - Part 4

Hi Everyone! This article is based on the quality of identifying good and the bad in the society.

We know that our society consists of both worthy things and as well as barren things. In other words it is instilled with the good and the bad. We get positive influences from the good people while we get negative and barren influences from the bad people. However, the same individual may possess both the good and the bad traits. It is our individual responsibility to accept the worthy, good aspects from our society while rejecting the bad. This quality of properly understanding and identifying the good and the bad while applying only the good in our lives will help us to be good citizens.

We can find plenty of worthy or good things in the society. For example, education is a worthy aspect that helps us to gain knowledge and it is the pathway to a good, qualitative life. Similarly, we can consider aspects such as studying  and following one’s religion, good health habits, proper and suitable dress code, careful use of mass media, good and true company as the good in the society that will result in many positive outcomes such as well-being, health, mental satisfaction , relaxation, updated knowledge, protection, a decent life-style and prestige.

The barren or bad aspects in the society cover bad company, misleading commercials, blind faith, bad manners, illegal activities, unhealthy food, illegal industries, addiction to drugs and liquor etc. However, it should be noted that some aspects like mass media and technological equipment possess both the good and the bad. We should utilize these things in the correct way so that it will help us to reap positive outcomes.

Therefore, we must ensure that we accept the aspects that contribute to the well-being of the society as the good while avoiding the things that damage the society and its values as the bad.
