Grade 6 Life Skills : Qualities that should be inculcated as a good citizen - Part 3

Dear Children, up to now you have learnt about two qualities that are required to be developed in individuals in order to be good citizens. In this article, we are moving on to another quality that is essential for the wellbeing of our society.

 

Practicing discipline and behaving well.

A person who is well disciplined will ensure that he acts according to a set of socially accepted standards where he or she obeys the rules and regulations. A disciplined person is also a well behaved individual. A well behaved person showcases appropriate polite behavior that follows laws, rules, regulations and customs.  When these two qualities are inculcated in an individual, they will give due respect to other individuals and the social values. They will also be kind to the others in the society while showcasing traits like compassion, humanity, cooperation, honesty, patience and righteousness.  

According to the place, an individual is required to maintain a series of life skills that will help them to be disciplined citizens while showcasing good behavior. 

 

  • As a family member
    • Equal  and fair treatment
    • Obedience
    • Respecting parents and elders in the family
    • Decorum/ proper and polite behavior
    • Help other family members
    • Inculcate good manners in one’s self when using mass media

 

  • As a member of the society
    • Use public property carefully
    • Respect other individuals
    • Help the elders, disabled and the innocent , helpless individuals
    • Respect the differences (Example: Race, Religion etc.)
    • Good behavior and decency in religious events
    • Dress and behave in a way that it suits the situation and the place Be well mannered at functions

 

 

 

  • As a Student
    • Concentrate and study well 
    • Discipline and good behavior
    • Use the resources carefully and protect  them
    • Protect the good name of the school 
    • Follow and obey the rules and regulations
    • Respect  and obey the teachers 
    • Decorum (Polite behavior)
    • Respect the national symbols and the symbols that represent the identity of the school

 

  • On the road
      • Patience
      • Be disciplined and showcase good behavior.
      • Follow and obey the traffic rules while setting an example to the others.
      • Be concerned about the safety of everyone
      • Use the road in a way that it ensures the safety of everyone. 

 

It is essential to maintain discipline and good behavior. By instilling this quality in one’s character, he or she will be able to protect their dignity and earn respect from others. A disciplined and a well behaved person can lead a happy life that is full of satisfaction and freedom. This also plays a significant role in establishing peace, harmony and national unity among people who belong to different racial and religious groups. Good behavior and discipline will create good, responsible and righteous citizens in the society who wins the trust of others. Eventually it will help to build a peaceful society that is free from misdeeds, where people will respect the moral values and the ethics. All in all, these traits will help to facilitate social and national development .
