Canadian PM Justin Trudeau and wife separate after 18 years of marriage

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie, announced their separation, marking the end of their 18-year marriage. The couple, who have three children, had been open about the challenges in their relationship and were seen less frequently together in public in recent years. 

 

 

The separation is one of Trudeau's biggest crises since becoming prime minister in 2015. They released identical statements on Instagram, indicating they decided to separate after meaningful and difficult conversations. 

 

 

The couple will focus on raising their children and will have joint custody. Sophie Gregoire Trudeau will move into separate accommodation in Ottawa but plans to spend time with the children at the prime minister's official residence.
