Batalanda Commission report referred to Attorney General after 25 years

The long-awaited Batalanda Commission report, which investigates into the alleged establishment of illegal detention centres and torture chambers at the Batalanda housing complex, has been referred to the Attorney General by the Presidential Secretariat following a directive from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The report, originally compiled over two decades ago, was tabled in Parliament recently. The Cabinet, led by the President, has now taken a policy decision to proceed with legal and administrative action based on its findings.
This marks the first formal step in addressing the Commission’s recommendations since its inception nearly 25 years ago.
