Indo-Lanka power link

A high-profile expert team from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) visited India to discuss the technical feasibility of the proposed grid connectivity between the two countries.
The team is compiling its findings, which will be submitted to the CEB once technical compilations are complete. The CEB chairman expressed readiness to support the linkage once the governments of both countries are ready to sign agreements.
Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera has given a non-formal assurance that the India-Sri Lanka grid connection will be implemented by 2030.
The feasibility study for the 1,000 MW High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) interconnection project was conducted jointly by the CEB and India's Power Grid Corporation. The project's estimated cost is approximately $18 billion.
