Water tariffs

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) in Sri Lanka plans to increase water tariffs by up to 130% from next month to boost revenue and cover losses.
The percentage of the tariff increase will depend on the volume of water consumed, ranging from 50% to 130%. The NWSDB expects to achieve an annual revenue of about Rs. 70 billion through this hike, which will also help in servicing outstanding debts of the Water Board.
The tariff increment is expected to take effect from 1st August, pending gazette issuance and ministerial approval.
