Murderers, gangs now control society -Sajith

The law in the country has gone wild, and lawlessness has taken effect. Everything in our society is controlled by murderers, extortionists and drug dealers. Murderous gangs have become the enforcers of society's control, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said.
Addressing a rally in Pilimatalawa, he criticised the recent wave of murders and pointed out that shooting incidents now occur on the streets and inside people’s homes.
“The government has no solution,” he said.
Speaking about this culture of violence, Premadasa accused government officials of downplaying its impact by claiming these murders do not affect national security.
“But the national security of a country is the safety of its people,” he said.
He further said that the President and the government have become incapable of stabilising law and order in the country.
“The rule of law is no longer in effect. Today, a culture of murder reigns,” Premadasa declared.
During the meeting, Premadasa explained how law and order could be restored through Provincial Council institutions by forming committees at grassroots level.
