Largest container ship arrives at the Colombo Port

The MSC Mariella, known as the world's largest container ship, arrived at the Eastern Container Terminal (ECT) of the Colombo Port day before yesterday (28).
The MSC Mariella, belonging to Liberia, West Africa, is 399.90 metres long and 61.30 metres wide. This large ship, which can handle a container weight of 240,737 tons, was built in 2023.
The ship will load and unload 1,600 containers at the Eastern Container Terminal, said Sri Lanka Ports Authority Managing Director Ganaka Hemachandra.
He further stated that the arrival of the MSC Mariella is a unique milestone in the maritime sector of Sri Lanka and that it will elevate the name of Sri Lanka to a higher level in the international maritime sector.
The arrival of this huge ship is a sign that the dream of the current government to make the Colombo Port a maritime hub in South Asia is coming true.
