A Russian billionaire has shown interest in investing in a business of distributing fertilizer via the Hambantota International port. The billionaire Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko, met with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, during his visit to Sri Lanka recently.

The businessman during a visit to the Port held discussions with the port’s top officials and had shown keen interest in the potential to develop regional distribution of fertilizer via the Hambantota International Port.

“This is well in line with the port’s plans as the Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG) was already investigating possibilities in this regard,” said Lance Zuo, General Manager Commercial and Marketing of HIPG.

HIPG who has entered into a business venture partnership with a reputed fertilizer bagging operator, is now gearing up to launch fertilizer transshipment operations, which is another step closer to the port’s vision of becoming a regional transshipment hub for fertilizer and bulk business.

He met with  Nishantha Gamage, Marketing Manager of HIPG, Lance Zuo, General Manager Commercial and Marketing of HIPG, and Capt. Ravi Jayawickreme, CEO of Hambantota International Port Services (HIPS).
