Polluted substance released to Diyawanna Oya

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has conceded that a polluted substance had been released to the Diyawanna oya from the Parliament. The revelation was made after Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa pointed out that a green colour substance was found in the Diyawanna oya and it needs to be investigated.

 

The speaker said that he had investigated the matter and found that a water tank of the Parliament had been cleared and the water had been released to the oya beside the Parliament driveway. He accepted that it was an act which had resulted in polluting the Oya.

 

Earlier Mr Premadasa visited the location made inquiries whether it was an algae. He later raised the issue during Parliamentary sessions.
