More than 3,000 arrested in connection with illegal activities

More than 3,000 arrested in connection with illegal activities

Sri Lanka Police say more than 3,000 people have been arrested in connection with illegal activities during an island-wide police operation.


A total of 14,927 police officers along with 52 police dogs participated in this special operation, said Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana.


Among those arrested were 431 suspects, 645 suspects on warrants, 98 on various offenses, 1250 suspects on dangerous drugs and illegal liquor and 580 drunk drivers.


Also, 5 persons were arrested with illegal firearms in Anuradhapura, Ampara, Trincomalee, Embilipitiya and Galle.


The police spokesman said that such operations will continue to maintain law and order and create a safe environment for the general public.
