Import of 6,000 swords under investigation

The controversial import of 6000 swords is under investigation by a team led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police,  the court of Appeal was told today.

 

The Attorney General’s (AG) Department conveyed this to the courts When a writ petition filed by the Colombo Archbishop Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith seeking an order from the security forces to conduct a formal inquiry into the imports was taken up.

 

The representative of the AG’s department the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has appointed a team headed by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

 

The AG’s Department, Senior State Counsel (SSC) Dr Awanthi Perera told courts that investigations are underway on the instructions of IGP C.D. Wickremaratne.

 

The hearing of the case was postponed till May 6.
