IMF chief extends strong support to Sri Lanka on debt restructuring

IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva says the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will strongly support Sri Lanka's debt restructuring.

Speaking to NDTV at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, the IMF chief said, "I feel for the people of Sri Lanka. It breaks my heart to see pictures of what is happening in a once very prosperous country.

Georgieva added that it was the result of mismanagement and that the most important thing to do was to bring the island nation back to a good macroeconomic base.

Georgia stressed that Sri Lanka needs to restructure its debt and that the IMF strongly supports the island nation in this regard.
