89 zika virus cases have been identified in India

According to foreign media reports, 89 people have been diagnosed with the zika virus in one district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Mosquito-borne diseases are contracted by pregnant mothers, causing the newborn's brain to contract and develop a rare condition called Guillain-Barre syndrome, which weakens the immune system.

The virus has also been identified as being transmitted through sexual contact.
