Govt. begins gradual relaxation of vehicle import restrictions

State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has announced that vehicles imported during the import ban, which fall under the public transport category and were detained at customs, can now be released.

This includes buses, lorries, trucks, and specialized vehicles. A 30% tax on the Cost, Insurance, and Freight (CIF) value will need to be paid to release these vehicles.

This decision came into effect on July 14. Siyambalapitiya emphasized that this move will benefit the public transport and tourism sectors.
