Better economic management, according to Basil, will provide relief to the people.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, newly-appointed Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa has promised citizens respite and Forex stability through better economic management on Saturday.

Basil told a gathering of chiefs of provincial councils that the government has made the reopening of the country a priority, and that with sound management, the economy will be recovered and people will receive relief.

Basil has claimed that misleading propaganda had a negative impact on the rupee, but has added that he is prepared to face any situation.

He has claimed that the country's local and foreign revenue streams have been stifled as a result of the country's intermittent closure since March last year owing to the spread of COVID-19.

It has been pointed out that the country was reopened and limitations were lifted in the interest of rebuilding the economy, as well as prompt vaccination.
