Colombo High Court acquits former ASP Udugampola in Millenium City case

The Colombo High Court today acquitted former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kulasiri Udugampola, who was previously indicted for allegedly disclosing information regarding military intelligence officers residing in a security residence at the "Millennium City" housing complex in Athurugiriya.
High Court Judge Adithya Patabendi acquitted Udugampola, stating that the prosecution failed to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
The judge noted that the accused who was serving in the police at the time, had carried out the raid in connection with the investigation into the murder of ten individuals in Udathalawinna.
The court further stated that Udugampola was unaware that the "Millennium City" housing complex was being used as a secret military intelligence safe house. Moreover, as the raid was conducted with the knowledge of senior officers, the judge ruled that the accused had merely performed his duties, and all charges against him were unsubstantiated.
