Vaas Gunawardena case

Former CID Director Shani Abeysekara and Sub-Inspector Sugath Mendis have been released from a court case linked to ex-DIG Vaas Gunawardena.

 

 

The Gampaha Magistrate's Court made this decision despite objections from the CCD. Abeysekara was accused of creating false evidence against Vaas Gunawardena and others. 

 

 

Vaas Gunawardena was previously found guilty of a murder case. Abeysekara was arrested in 2020 for allegedly falsifying evidence in the investigation involving Vaas Gunawardena.
