Bring in laws to keep politicians away from cricket - Sajith

New laws should be introduced prohibiting politicians from holding posts even in cricket clubs as an important step to resolve Sri Lanka's cricket crisis which has reached disastrous proportions, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa said.
"Sri Lanka will suffer a similar fate to the West Indies if no proper action is taken to resolve the cricket crisis. West Indies became the world champions in 1975 and in 1979. They were runners-up in 1983. However, West Indies have not been able to qualify for the World Cup tournament this year. Sri Lanka will also suffer the same fate if no proper action is taken to resolve the cricket crisis which has shocked the entire nation," Premadasa told a public gathering.
"One cannot resolve the cricket crisis like reshuffling the Cabinet. The Cabinet is reshuffled to fulfill the aspirations of the government and the President. Cricket cannot be administered similarly. No one should defend Sri Lanka's cricket administrators," he said.
"The administration of cricket should be handed over to those who brought the World Cup to Sri Lanka in 1996," he added.
