This is just the beginning, Namal on LG polls results

In the wake of the just concluded Local Government (LG) elections, National Organiser of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), Namal Rajapaksa expressed renewed optimism about the party’s future, despite failing to secure control of any local councils.
In a post on X, Rajapaksa highlighted the party’s resilience and continued grassroots efforts.
“Over the past six months, the SLPP has regrouped and gained momentum by staying true to our principles. While some rely on false promises, we remain committed to honest, principled politics that put the people first. Thank you to everyone who stood by us. This is just the beginning. We will keep working, village by village, to rebuild and restore trust in real leadership,” he said.
The SLPP secured 742 seats islandwide with a total of 954,517 votes, accounting for 9.17% of the national vote.
However, the party did not manage to lead in any local authority—a stark contrast to its sweeping victories in previous elections.
