Four die in Kandy during Sacred Tooth Relic visit, says Hospital Director

Four people who visited Kandy to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic and for official duties have died, Director National Hospital, Kandy Dr. Iresha Fernando said.
She said that all four deceased individuals were over 65 years of age, and post-mortem examinations revealed that one had died of a heart attack.
The Forensic Medical Officer has issued an open verdict on the deaths of the other three and taken steps to refer the bodies to the medical examiner.
Over the past seven days, around 300 people have been admitted to the National Hospital, Kandy for treatment of various medical conditions.
Dr. Fernando noted that many of them had fainted due to dehydration.
Currently, nine health centers are operational in the vicinity of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, and nearly 3,000 people have received medical treatment from these centers over the past few days.
Kandy District Regional Health Services Director Senaka Thalagala stated that seven Suwaseriya ambulances have been deployed to transport those who fall ill while visiting the Dalada Maligawa to hospital for treatment.
