Ready to discuss with opposition on allocation of slots in Parliamentary committees - Bimal

The government is ready to discuss with the opposition parties to resolve issues over the allocation of members in the Parliamentary committees, Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayake said yesterday.
He told Parliament that the government has proposed to allocate more slots in Parliamentary committees such as the Business Committee, COPE, COPA, Back Benchers Committee and Consultative Committees and that more allocations have already been given in some committees.
He said this following the Speaker's announcement that the issue over the allocation of members in the Parliamentary committees must be resolved in a reasonable manner in a discussion with the government and opposition during the business committee meeting.
The Speaker said a date for the meeting will be announced shortly.
The political parties represented in Parliament raised concerns over the past weeks over the allocation of adequate number of slots to the opposition parties in Parliamentary committees.
