Kandy city free of health hazards - KMC

The Kandy Municipal Health Department said that the Kandy city is not facing any threat of diseases or health hazards in the aftermath of the large crowds that gathered to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic.

The department rejected statements made by unscrupulous individuals attempting to mislead the public.

Chief Municipal Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Pasan Perakum Jayasinghe, said that the entire city has now been cleared of all garbage left by pilgrims and has been thoroughly cleaned.

Dr. Jayasinghe further emphasised that Kandy city is not experiencing any issues affecting its drinking water supply. He pointed out that the city’s water comes from the Dunumadalawa protected reservoir, which is immune to any form of pollution. Additionally, water supplied from the Mahaweli River is properly purified at the Getambe Water Treatment Plant.

He urged the public not to be misled by irresponsible statements and to have no misgivings regarding the health and sanitation standards in Kandy city.
