Train fails to halt, crashes onto Colombo Fort platform

A train crashed onto the railway platform at the Colombo Fort railway station today after failing to stop it at the designated place.

 

According to railway authorities, the train was entering platform No. 1 of the Colombo Fort Railway Station to commence its journey from Colombo Fort to Chilaw at 2:35 pm.

 

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the accident, although the front part of the train and a section of the platform were damaged.

 

This incident did not disrupt railway traffic, and an investigation will be conducted at the Railway Department level to determine the cause of the incident.
