WhatsApp to stop working on select iPhones from May 2025

WhatsApp to stop working on select iPhones from May 2025

WhatsApp users with older iPhones will soon lose access to the messaging platform, as the company plans to withdraw support for devices running outdated iOS versions starting May 5, 2025.

In a continued effort to enhance user security amid rapidly advancing technology and escalating cyber threats, WhatsApp has announced the discontinuation of support for older iOS versions no longer receiving security updates from Apple.

The absence of regular software patches renders these devices increasingly susceptible to vulnerabilities and malicious attacks. By encouraging users to transition to newer devices and updated operating systems, WhatsApp seeks to safeguard user data, uphold privacy standards, and facilitate access to its latest features and security enhancements.

Which iPhones will be affected?

Starting May 5, WhatsApp will require iPhones to run iOS 15.1 or later. Devices still operating on iOS versions earlier than 15.1 will no longer be compatible.

Affected models include:

iPhone 5s

iPhone 6

iPhone 6 Plus

These models have already been labeled "obsolete" by Apple, meaning no hardware service or replacement parts are available.
