Rs. 400 mn loss due to delay in Slave Island flyover construction - Bimal

Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake today revealed that more than Rs. 400 million has to be paid to contractors as delay charges due to the delay in the construction of the flyover from Baladaksha Mawatha near the Slave Island Police Station to Chittampalam A. Gardiner Mawatha in Colombo.
The Minister said this during an inspection tour to the site to inquire into the delay in the constructions.
He said Rs. 500,000 is added as delay charges daily and that the reasons for the delay should be resolved soon.
The Minister said an issue of relocating the police quarters in the location had delayed the constructions for about two years and that the Acting IGP has agreed to relocate the families residing in the quarters soon.
He said once the families are removed from the quarters, the construction of the flyover can be completed by the end of this year.
