Foreign Minister requests Israeli amnesty for Sri Lankan workers facing visa issues

Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath has requested the Israeli government to grant amnesty to Sri Lankans who have faced various difficulties due to visa expirations over several years and to integrate them into the workforce.

The request was made during a meeting with the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the State of Israel, who called on Minister Herath, who also oversees the portfolios of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.

Minister Herath also urged the Ambassador to ensure that no legal action is taken against these individuals.

The Ambassador agreed to forward the request to the Israeli government without delay.

He also informed Minister Herath that a significant number of Sri Lankans are currently employed across various sectors in Israel, and that the Israeli government is taking steps to provide additional employment opportunities for Sri Lankans.

The meeting concluded with a productive discussion aimed at fostering mutually beneficial growth in the areas of economy, security and employment cooperation between the two countries.
