WHO says Sri Lanka and Maldives eliminate measles and rubella, ahead of 2023 target

Sri Lanka and Maldives have become the first two countries in South Asia to elimiante both measles and rubella ahead of the 2023 target, the WHO said on July 8.
The aforesaid announcement was made following fifth meeting of the South-East Asia Regional Verification Commission for Measles and Rubella Elimination.
“Protecting all children against these killer and debilitating diseases is an important step in our endeavor to achieve healthier population and health for all,” Regional Director for WHO South-East Asia Region, Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh said.
