The SLMA has issued a warning that Sri Lanka is on the verge of experiencing the fourth wave of Covid.

The Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) has warned that the coronavirus is about to enter its fourth wave.

Dr. Padma Gunaratne, President of the SLMA, has told the media today that despite the travel restrictions, the number of Covid patients has not decreased much.

Travel restrictions were implemented in May, and the number of Covid infections was brought down to a manageable level, as envisaged by the authorities. She did point out, however, that this did not result in a significant reduction in infections.

According to Dr. Padma Gunaratne, the level of reduction in Covid patients during this timeframe was decided by the relaxation of travel restrictions.

The SLMA, on the other hand, believes that Sri Lanka is steadily approaching the initial stage of the fourth wave of the coronavirus.
