Public transportation between provinces was abruptly halted - Minister explains the reasons why

Inter-provincial public transit has been temporarily halted when it was discovered that many of the passengers were not essential service workers.

The Covid Control Committee warned that the Delta variant of the virus, which has been detected in the Colombo suburbs, poses a significant risk of spreading to rural areas, according to State Minister of Passenger Transportation Dilum Amunugama.

Inter-provincial services may increase the danger of disease transmission by causing people to travel unnecessarily in buses and trains.

As a result, Minster Amunugama added that the decision was made to temporarily halt the operations of inter-provincial buses and trains.
