Petroleum tanks of Sapugaskanda oil refinary Centre are in dangerous

furnace oil threatens Kelani

Kelani river is in a threat of mixing furnace oil as oil from the tanks at Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery have overflowed last night.

If the oil mix with river, it can affect severely the water distribution from the Ambathale and Biyagama water treatment plants.

According to Navy, because the Heiyanthuduwa area is  flooded due to the heavy rain, there is a risk of furnaced oil mixed with water in Sapugasknda and drift into Kelani River.

Immediate Steps are taken from Navy to prevent the oil reaching the Kelani River.
