Parents to be aware of sexual predators in their own households, says the NCPA

With a significant increase in the number of child sexual abuse cases being recorded, Professor Muditha Vidanapathirana, Chairman of the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA), has stressed that parents and the entire family should pay attention to the safety of children, particularly young girls.

He had pointed out that the culprits in most of the recent incidents were close family members.

He was referring to a recent incident in which a 14-year-old girl was sexually molested by a close relative.

Following a complaint received by its Special Investigation Unit about a rape of a 14-year-old girl in Colombo, the NCPA apprehended a suspect.
