No one can enter or leave isolated areas - Ajith Rohana

No one can enter or leave isolated areas - Ajith Rohana

While the quarantine curfew was lifted, 25 police divisions in Western Province and Kurunegala and Kegalle Districts are still declared as isolated areas.

Under isolation orders, no person is allowed to enter or exit these areas, said Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana, joining the TV Derana breakfast show ‘Derana Aruna’ this morning (09).

This decision was taken by health authorities by taking accumulated data into consideration, he said.

The reason why certain areas are placed under lockdown is that there have been cases of infection in the areas and there is a tendency for more infections to take place, the DIG pointed out. And there is a risk of the virus spreading to other areas through these infected persons, he added.

“Isolating or locking down an area means that no person can enter or exit these areas. A person’s profession or other conditions are not considered in this. Because they can be a carrier of the disease.”

Further speaking, DIG Ajith Rohana said that vehicles, buses, and train services are allowed to travel through these areas without making a stop.

However, there must be an exception to this, as residents in these areas need food and utilizes such as water and electricity. Further, telecommunication towers and media institutions in the areas must continue operations, he added.

“The main rule here is that no one can enter or exit areas. However, the exceptions to this rule are set to be declared today.

If a person is entering an [isolated] area there must be a registry containing these data. If a person is leaving these areas, the police and health authorities must obtain their information.”
