Minister Kanchana says coal tender awarded to lowest bidder

 

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera says that a tender was awarded on Friday (August 27) to the lowest bid received for the purchase of coal for the Lakwijaya Power Plant in Norochchole.

In a tweet, the lawmaker said the due process of procurement was followed with evaluation and approval from STEC, SSCAPC.

His tweet came after SJB MP Harsha de Silva, citing a newspaper article, questioned whether US$1,477 million was Sri Lanka's largest ever procurement to buy 4.5 million metric tons of coal on a two-year term deal. Shortlisted by Tender Committee.
