Has a new Covid variant surfaced in Sri Lanka?

Health officials are probing the possibility of a new variant of  a covid virus. Dr. Sudath Samaraweera, Director of the Health Ministry’s Epidemiology Unit said”“We assume that a new strain of the virus has surfaced though it has still not been conclusively established”, The rapid transmission level of the virus has been observed.

 

There is concern of the delay in restricting movements while the  Covid-19 positive cases have spiked over the past few days with admissions to intensive care units spiraling.
