Hanaa Singer: Restrictions should not go beyond what is necessary to protect the public's health

Hanaa Singer-Hamdy, the UN resident coordinator in Sri Lanka, had stated that the right to peaceful assembly includes the right to organize peaceful demonstrations and that any limits imposed as part of the pandemic response should not go beyond the justifiable protection of public health.

In a tweet, she had stated that the right to gather assists in the execution of other rights such as freedom of expression and the ability to influence public policy.
