Arjuna wants PM to appoint Commission to probe status of Cricket

Former Sri Lanka’s Cricket Captain Arjuna Ranatunga has called Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to appoint a Commission to probe issues related to the game and take preventing measures to stop the downfall of Cricket.

 

Mr Ranatunga made the remarks at the national event to mark the 25th anniversary of the World cup victory held at the Temple trees today.

 

He said coaches from foreign countries were dumped in the country without success and they end up making money and improving their CV.

 

Team members of the 1996 world cup winning team as well as other past players were present with their families at the event.

 

Mr Ranatunga said earlier Pakistan was known for corruption in Cricket,  but now the ICC has set up an anti-corruption office in Sri Lanka which as not good for the country.

 

The former captain said that the 1996 team members were unfairly treated while some of the local coaches too were badly treated.

 

He said he had second thoughts incoming for the event,  as some of those responsible for the fate of Cricket were present.

 

“We have suffered only setbacks,  we have not fallen yet”, he said referring to the status of Cricket in the country.
