Amendments to the Prevention of Terrorism Act are announced

These amendments enable the Magistrates to come to the place of detention to ensure that the suspect is protected to the extent specified in the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment No. 22 of 1994.
The amendments would allow the suspect to be brought before a forensic medical officer, who would ensure that such a person is not tortured, and conduct daily hearings to ensure that cases are resolved expeditiously.
