20th amendment becomes the law of SL

Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena assented to the the Bill entitled “20th Amendment to the Constitution”, today (October 29).

 

The signing took place at the office of the Speaker ,  in the presence of the Secretary-General of Parliament and the Deputy Secretay General of Parliament.

 

The Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary-General of Parliament, Neil Iddawala stated that the 20th amendement to the Constitution  becomes the Law of the country with immediate effect.

 

In addition to the abolishment of Constitutional Council, many major constitutional changes will take place with the introduction of the new amendment.
