Portofino; the Italian city introduces no-waiting zones

In order to prevent tourists from lingering and clogging its narrow streets, an Italian city has banned taking selfies at popular spots with breathtaking views.

According to Fox News, Portofino is the news creator; a town having approximately 500 people southeast of Genoa on the Italian Riviera. It has introduced no-waiting zones in the town preventing tourists from taking pictures.

As reported, those who spend too much time in the zones could be fined €275, or roughly $305. As the Mayor of Portofino described, the “anarchic chaos”, the tourists blocking streets and snarling traffic to take pictures reasoned for this ban. Portofino is a small city with a fishing community and the place is renowned for its colourful buildings. Portofino is the first country that prohibits selfies since this has been introduced in other cities and countries in response to tourism, such as portions of the U.K.’s Tower of London. These countries have imposed restrictions for security reasons near the crown jewels housed there.

In the U.S., California and New York have also prohibited selfies in zoos and other places with wild animals.
