Grade 9 Life skills : World of Work - Part 12

The job application screening process is typically followed by inviting the shortlisted candidates for an interview. A job interview can be cited as a process in which the suitability of the shortlisted applicants for a specific job role is being evaluated by the employer. This happens in the form of a verbal evaluation or a conversation. Basically interviews may take place in several forms namely, individual interviews, group interviews and practical interviews. Individual interviews normally happen between the manager or a person who occupies a higher post / a head in the company and the job applicant. These are commonly observed in the recruitment process carried out by the private organizations that are owned by a sole owner.

Here, the job applicant may be reviewed through a series of questions. The group interviews are prevalent in the government sector and large private establishments like the international chains, etc. Group interviews are headed by two or more people and the interview board may consist of more individuals when interviews for the higher levels of jobs/professions like senior managers and directors take place. The practical interviews evaluate the application of the knowledge and skills possessed by the individuals in a practical environment. Assessment centers that evaluate the problem solving skills and the analytical skills of the candidates can be cited as an example. The jobs in the technical field (Example: Software engineers) and the teaching profession (Examples: aesthetic subjects like drama, art, music and dancing) commonly conduct such interviews. There are a series of factors that should be taken into account when you prepare for a job interview.
